Yesterday's Out and About - Pledge Drive and the Death Cult's Anti-Trans Initiatives

Yesterday on Out and About,  I talked with trans friends Dr. Kristine Coons and Kimber Ryburn. Also, I had fellow KYRS peep and trans pal Lynnea Kaylor with me to help pitch for the KYRS pledge drive. Our conversation was around the two very bad anti-trans initiatives on the current Washington State ballot.

The Republican Death Cult keeps trying to distract folks from what they are doing to everyone in our nation by their phony threat, best vocalized by their Russian-operative cult leader with his cries of “transgender for everyone.” Only a very “low-IQ” person would believe these demonic Republicans, but that is about all that remains in the cult at this time.

If you missed the show, you can find it in the KYRS archives here.

Today on Out and About - Anti-trans initiatives and our pledge drive...

Today on Out and About, I will be talking with transgender friends - Kristine Coons and Kimber Ryburn about the two anti-transgender initiatives on our ballots in Washington State. Initiative 638 would require public schools to order girls to get their sexual organs verified by a doctor before they could play sports. Initiative 1 is a measure which would repeal student privacy rights and subject trans kids to possible violence by abusive parents.

It’s no surprise that these solutions-in-search-of-a-problem are backed by the Republican Party. These dishonorable, hateful people seem to only care about attempting to hurt their marginalized neighbors, in order to placate their death cult base.

I do have a lot of questions, especially around the issue of the minuscule number of trans athletes in our state. I wonder if there is a way to make competition as fair as possible for all involved in girl’s and women’s sports? Certainly this awful initiative would not help anyone (except to get the death cult aroused).

Today, we also will be beginning our KYRS fund drive to continue the operation of our radio station. So, I will have a couple of other KYRS friends with me in the studio, asking you to phone in a pledge (509.747.3807).

Yesterday's Out and About - A Year With Frog and Toad!

Yesterday on Out and About, I had director Katelyn Rush, stage manager Meg Barlow Jones and choreographer Dana Williams on from Hitchhiker’s Theatre’s production of A Year With Frog and Toad. We talked a lot about how Frog and Toad stories really were a positive example for kids on friendship and love. The show sounds wonderful and the music is really fun. So much so, that I had to play the Cookies song from the play during our break at the 20 minute mark. If you are looking for something fun to do this weekend with your kids, grandkids or adult friends this looks like a good time. Maybe a perfect break after the No Kings protest on Saturday? More information on the play and tickets can be found at  https://www.zeffy.com/en-US/ticketing/hitchhikers-theatre-a-year-with-frog-and-toad. If you missed the show, you can find it in the KYRS archives here.

Today on Out and About - A Year With Frog and Toad - The Musical!

Today on Out and About, I will be talking with cast members and crew from Hitchhiker’s Theatre’s production of  A Year With Frog and Toad - The Musical.

Who doesn’t love the story between these two? Frog and Toad are friends who are very different, yet have fun and make the world beautiful together. I remember reading these stories to our kids over and over again. In a world that seems to have lost its way, we need Frog and Toad more than ever!

This show is fun for all ages, and will be celebrated on the beautiful stage at the Central Library - October 17, 18, 24 and 25. I heard there may be puppets involved, so I am super stoked!

Yesterday's Out and About - Halloween X-SPO with founder Nathan O'Brien

Yesterday on Out and About, I had Nathan O’Brien on to talk about this weekend’s Halloween X-SPO. Nathan is the founder and coordinator of Lilac City Comicon and Halloween X-SPO. Both these events have grown onto huge celebrations of family fun. Halloween X-SPO runs October 10th and 11th at the Convention Center. Actors from television shows and movies will be on hand, as well as writers, artists, vendors, entertainment, panel discussions and plenty of cosplay for those who want to participate, plus two costume contests - one for adults and one for kids. This is going to be a lot of fun. You can get all the details of Halloween X-SPO here. If you missed yesterday’s Out and About, you can check it out here.

Today's Out and About - Fourth Annual HALLOWEEN-XSPO!!!!!!

One of my favorite annual events is coming up - Halloween X-SPO! This is its fourth year. It is brought to you by the excellent folks behind Lilac City Comicon. I haven’t missed the last three and I am really looking forward to this year’s. I am so fortunate that I will have the founder and coordinator, Nathan O’Brien on today’s Out and About to  talk about all things Halloween X-SPO.

Spooky and fun, there’s plenty of great panel discussions, costume contests, vendors, food and many stars of scary movies for you to meet and greet. Personally,  I am really looking forward to a photo op in front of the Mystery Machine! I bet there will be plenty of Scooby Doos, Shaggys, Freds, Velmas and Daphnes lined up for this one.

If you are looking for a little cosplay or just wanting to give your new Halloween costume a dry run before your big Halloween Party, Halloween X-SPO is the place to be - October 10th and 11th at the Spokane Convention Center. Of course, you don’t have to dress up. But, I have to say, the one year that I went as my alter-ego and scary movie show hostess - Bambi D. Zombie - was positively the best time.

Yesterday's Out and About - Sami Perry, No Kings Rally, VOTE EARLY

Yesterday on Out and About, I had Sami Perry on from We Have The Power. We Have The Power is one of the organizations that is putting together the No Kings rally on October 17. The theme of this rally is "Vote Early." Ballots will have dropped a couple days before. There are thousands of ballots in Spokane County that did not get counted last election because they were postmarked too late. Sami says to plan on having your ballot in the mailbox or election dropbox before October 22. With Trump’s fascist influence on the Post Office, I will be dropping off mine at a dropbox and then making sure it gets counted by checking in here at VoteWA.

As far as the No Kings rally, they are trying something a little different this time. The rally will start at 1 pm and continue until 5 pm, same as always. The different thing is that there are three organized marches to the rally site at BA Clark Park - one from Franklin Park. One from Corbin park and another from the Garland Theater. Of course those will start earlier than 1 pm because, you know, walking.

You can find more information on the marches here. You can find out more information about We Have The Power here. If you missed yesterday’s show, you can check it out here.

As always, thank you to my underwriter - Eastern Washington University.

Today on Out and About - The next No Kings Rally and the upcoming election, with Sami Perry

The next No Kings protest is coming up fast. This one is going to center on the upcoming election. I know people might get sick of hearing this, but this next election may be the most important election in our nation’s history.

What do rising gas prices, rising grocery prices, the growing homeless population, the defunding of your healthcare, the illegal and immoral wars started by our government, the losing of all of our allies while we cozy up to dictatorships, the assault on our Constitution, the attacks on the free press, the misuse  of our military, the attack on immigrants, the attack on people of color, the attack on LGBTQ people, the rewriting of history, the destruction of institutions, the destruction of research and science, the increasing wildfires, the exploding nation deficit,  the selling of your future and your children’s future to benefit the Epstein class, the astronomical graft that President Trump has taken (to the tune of billions) all at a cost to you… What do all of these thing have in common? All of these spring from illegal, fascist moves by Trump and his cult, aided and abetted by dishonorable and immoral Republican jurists, senators and representatives, including our own Michael  Baumgartner.

Whether we rescue our nation (and your future) is up to you and your vote. Republican cult members know that if they lose control, justice is coming - for all of them. They will do anything and everything to make sure that it is extremely hard for people to vote, and to make sure people’s votes are not counted. When we win, they will do everything in their power to stop Democrats from occupying the office they have legally won. Think January 6 on steroids.

These Republican politicians are crooked and have no honor. They will fight tooth and nail to keep justice from occurring. Whatever happens, this election will be one for the history books. And when your grandkids ask what you did, how you voted this November, you will either be proud to tell them what you did to save our nation or you will be ashamed to say you did nothing. Unless, you are a MAGA person. Because, in order to feel shame, you must embrace some sort of morality. If you have any morality, you would have removed yourself from this cult years ago.

Today, on Out and About, I will be talking with Sami Perry from Spokane Indivisible about the next No Kings Rally and why voting is crucial this election.
