Today's Out and About - Joshua H. Cohen and Scott Doughty - SPL's workshop production of FURIES...

Today on Out and About, I am joined by playwright Joshua H. Cohen and Spokane Playwright Laboratory’s (SPL) co-founder and artistic director Scott Doughty.

Joshua is a prolific playwright and composer. His critically-acclaimed plays have been seen all over the world. He is in from New York City to workshop his new play Furies with SPL. If you have never been to one of these workshops, let me tell you that they are very entertaining. Great actors and directors stage a play with minimal sets, props and costumes, and then afterward, the playwright solicits comments and questions from the audience. Your input can help a playwright make changes to his or her work in progress.

I have found, in these workshops, that I think much more about what I am seeing and I pay a lot more attention to how I feel about what is being performed. I think this is because I want to help in the creation of a theatrical work. I have been very moved by many of the SPL workshops I have been to. I am looking forward to learning more about this play and the creative process so far.

Today is a big day. With today’s elections, we stand poised to begin rescuing our nation from criminal moral corruption and the decay of Fascism. In Greek and Roman mythology, punishment for evil doers and the restoration of the moral order was the work of underworld goddesses - The Furies. I am not sure if this play - Furies - has anything to do with these avenging crones, but it seems apropos for today. Regardless, take a break from the election’s tension and drama and tune in for some great talk for a while!
