Today's Out and About - The KYRS Gala!

 

KYRS receives no federal funding. There is only one (slightly) paid person for the entire station. All of us who have shows, or help out in some other way, are volunteers. We do this because we want to provide Spokane with an alternative voice. You can hear this in the music we play, the politics we highlight and the people we interview on air. The station is completely dependent on your donations - either through membership or through underwriters. Money is getting tighter, not just for us at the station, but for everyone in our community.

It is not surprising that a lone voice which tries to bring you the truth about how we got here, as a nation, and how we can go forward, as a community, to fix what they have broken is always in danger of being silenced. For me, there is no greater need in Eastern Washington and North Idaho than this voice. Many listeners turn to our national progressive programming, as well as our local voices, whenever there is a new attack on the Inland Northwest. These attacks may be overtly political or come in the form of something so heart-breaking as the fires that destroyed homes and dislocated thousands in our city.

Everywhere we look, we see need. KYRS is your community radio staton. We need you. But, unlike a lot of other organizations that also deeply need your help, we will give you something in return, whether you help us or not. All you have to do is turn on your radio, or use your phone or computer. This is why we are here. We want to always be here for you.

We are putting on a gala on September 25. It starts at 6 pm with dinner starting at 7. There will be entertainment and donated auction items. You can get your tickets here.
